Preferences grayed out - Can’t change chart range

I contacted the developers about some things like preferences being grayed out and not being able to change the chart range. They got back to me promptly and have been giving good customer service. So, for now my review is 3 stars, but it has the potential to go up as they implement some of the features I think this app needs. When I will have time I will add more to this review.

Great App

I bought this App. about two yearsago and it is the best app I have invested in. I use it several times a day to check investments and to keep up to date on market news.

not worth the $20, feel really bad

When I bought this app, I was anticipating to use it as day trading and I was happy to see a software with news sync and I can see correlation. After I opened it, I was stunned because the chart only has three options : Daily, Weekly and Monthly. I definitely cannot use it to monitor the market if I want to do day trading. I will be satisfied if the team can offer minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes to hourly chart option. But so far, the last time they updated the software is Sep 2013. There is no upgrade or improvement in the past 4 months. I shouldn’d have click the buy button.

Awesome

An awesome App. However, I found out that the FX’s quotes are not real time. Hope you can fix that

Soooo dissapointed

I wish I didnt buy this. There are only 3 chart views, daily, weekly & monthly and you cant zoom in on them! Litterally the shortest time lapse you can look at is 12 months when you hit daily… so irritated because otherwise this app is amazing. In the end its worthless to me as I want to see what the stock did in the last 3 months, 1 month, 2 weeks, 1 week, 1 day, last 15 min etc. and you cant do this! Blows my mind how clever and clean the other features are, except the charts! I hope this is corrected soon. I would love to leave a 5 star rating, which is what this would deserve if only its charts were customizable.

Great Dashboard for Stock Info

I like the way it pulls al the info sources together, indicates news events, runs quickly. It is all-around pretty handy.

Great for Beginners and Pros Alike!

I’m a new investor, and I have a family member who is a professional investor. I have used this program to skim through all the companies I can and to gain a starting point for learning about each one. It can show you where to start your research, and allows you to group companies in a way which helps you to organize your thoughts and gain an overview of how an industry behaves as a whole. Its interface is simple and clear, and it is easy to gain your bearings very fast. As a news amalgamater, it is extremely useful in spurring your interest in further research (it should not be used as the only source for information). The in-window browser is very functional and smooth. MY SUGGESTIONS FOR UPDATES AND ADDITIONAL FEATURES: - Allow the user to input how many shares they own of each company, and see a summary of their investment as it relates to the activity of those companies (total value of owned stocks based on input) - Regarding the above suggestion: This could then become a useful training app for fantasy trading, to help individuals practice before actually investing. It could also help people to put their investing theories into practice before actually investing. - Allow custom sticky-notes to be affixed to the symbols in your sidebar. - Create pre-set industry groups, so that instead of just selecting a company, you can select an industry which contains all relevant symbols. - Create a market-overview homepage which opens when the the program does, so you can see an overview of the world markets as a whole with selected news stories related to the state and condition of the markets at both the open and close of each day. Thanks for creating this awesome, well-organized and very useful app for a new investor to have a starting point for informed decisions!

Stupid

I give it five stars for everything except the app forcing me to rate it in the app store. The app locked up until I came here. I hate to be told what to do. Please provide a way to just say “no” or “later”.

Slick

I’m giving this 5 stars, even though i do agree with the person who criticized the fact that they force us to rate it. It doesnt deserve 1 star for this though. The app itself is very nice, and cloud integration is seamless.

AWESOME APP!!!!!

It is the only App I have found that brings everything together in one place. Very easy to set up groups to sort your investments.

does not work in Yosemite

this app has many problems if used in yosemite. I contacted support twice reporting the problems, I also encluded screenshots to help, but, so far, and it has been over 2 weeks, I have had no answer. Based on my experience I would NOT recommend this app to anyone. If you want news, there are many websites with plenty of news, for free. The only good thing about the app is the charts, but that is where the probles are. As the app is now is totally useless, just a wast of time and money + frustration.

Buggy in 10.10.2

Got this app couple months back and did not noticed any problems. Now some currencys do not display data.

An awesome app!!

Useful. I have no problems with it. A GOOD NEWS PROVIDER. I hope that in the future if they could add extra features for charting and technical analysis, and I will donate more $$ on top of what I had paid for just to support this great app. Thanks for this terrific app!!

Purchased yesterday, expensive and keeps crashing DO NOT PURCHASE

Dear StockSpy, You took my twenty-spot yesterday and your app won’t load today (though the dock icon won’t go away). I so regret this purchase. Please update or refund. Trying to initiate a claim through American Express and Apple. Update: This program continues to create problems. Despite my repeated efforts the program would not completely close. It remained in my dock and appeared in use despite the fact I couldn’t find a window anywhere. Many attempts to "force quit" were unsuccessful and my Mac refused to restart because StockSpy wouldn’t quit! A hard reboot finally did the trick. Guess where the program is now? In the trash. $20 worth of trash.

StockSpy

I bought this on a whim sevral months ago after buying my new iMac. Since then Ive discovered many traits that make me glad I did. I saw the 200 day simple moving average line and wondered how I might reset it to a 50-day. Support pointed me to the tiny gear in the upper right-hand corner which let me set the number of days to any one of several options, from 10 to 500. I could use the EMA instead of SMA, and they included something called Parabolic SAR and Billinger Bands, which I had never even heard of. My retirement is just getting started so I sent an email to Support asking about some historical "opening value" data for a simulation project. They responded that they didnt have anything like that, but included a URL to where I found almost exactly what I was looking for. Im starting to actively manage my portfolio and, while their disclaimer says its a "research tool" and not intended for technical analysis, etc., I see this as an important source of information. Also, when dealing with an application of this level of complexity, the quality of their Support team is critical. I have contacted them a couple of times now and their response was both accurate and timely. I like this product and the company behind it. UPDATE: I’m a casual investor but StockSpy lets me have my whole portfolio along the lefthand edge of its screen, with current and delta (amount and percent) right next to each security. I can click on any of tghem and get all the information (and more!) that I’ll ever need. Having used it for years now (iMac version 2.91) I can still say it’s a five-star product.

Works well — great that it’s real time

I’m considering dropping my TD Ameritrade account which I really just kept around so I could get real-time quotes. This program works very well. There are a few features I’d like to see in it though. 1) Display 52-week range beside each ticker value 2) Let me change the font for the symbol and values (mostly make them smaller) so I can fit more tickers in a window. 3) Open my default browser INSTEAD of using its internal browser for news 4) Provide a scrolling ticker view so that I don’t need to keep the main window open

Really good potential

I really like the layout and features in this program, especially the quick cloud integration over multiple devices. It’s also very quick with what appears to be real time quotes. I have been trading and investing for a long while and I am not sure of the benefits of focusing on news releases as the primary means of information for trading; helpful but not worth the full focus of a trading platform. A few things I would like to see in the future… -Technicals such as MACD, RSI, Stochastics, etc.with adjustable parameters. I find these essential for a stock trading platform. -Ability to adjust windows, such as turning off the news feed window, or at least collapsing it when not in use, in order to see more chart information. nice job though!

Abandoing StockSpy after using them for 3.5 Years.

I don’t want to do this, but I’ve changed my 5 star rating to 1 star because this app can no longer support adding or search new stocks( a necesasry and very basic requirement for any good stock app). Here is an example for those thinking of buying this app: GoDaddy is traded on the NYSE and has 5.13 Billion Market Cap. If you use StockSpy to search “GoDaddy” it will return 0 results. I need to use a 2nd stock spy app just to learn Godaddy’s ticket symbols “GDDY” and even after typign in “GDDY” Stock Spy returns 0 results and treats it as an invaild ticker symbol that must be added “manually” to your watch list. This is absurd and very disappointing after 3.5 years of using this app and 3 large StockSpy Purchases(Mac/iPhone/iPad). It’s time to move on abandon use.
