StockSpy Realtime Stock Market App Reviews

Now with so many Apps available in so many categories, it is difficult to assess their real value, especially for those Apps that arent free. Yet based on its popularity and recommendation by "Dr. Mac," I decided to chance the purchase of Stock-Spy. As one who wants a quick overview of the markets, especially related to the funds and stocks I own, I found Stock-Spy does the trick. The automatic RSS Feeds provide the additional news where I can easily read what others are saying about my investments . . . and all on my desktop without having to go on the internet. Great purchase.

The app stockspy is a great app in my point-of-view. It is not what you will see in offices, but it gets the job done well. Even though its a twenty dollar investment, by using this app and talking to a broker u could make a lot of money. It is a great way to get started with the market. Another thing I love is that it has real-time updates to give you great insight on how your stock is doing. worth 20 dollars!

Pro: The Stock Groups and Cloud Sync changed this from an OK app to a top of its class app. Con: The method used for identifying news stories associated with a particular stock still needs work. If your stock symbol happens to be a real word (e.g. LIFE, GAIN) then expect to have a bunch of news stories that have nothing to do with the stock show up. I would also like to see a portfolio feature where you could track current value and basis of the stocks you own.

How is it possible that the 20$ app I just bought doesnt have the ability to show Zynga or Facebook stock, yet the free 20 minute delayed widget is? That is pathetic. DO NOT GET THIS.

StockSpy certainly allows you to spy on daily movements or fluctuations in stocks, but it lacks support for currencies, options, and key financial information. If such features were added or improved upon, then StockSpy would return greater efficiency and provide a better overall experience for its user. In addition, a ticker would be nice GUI feature.

This app would be on top if it had a stock ticker that you could show on your desktop. Next Update Maybe?

Ive been using StockSpy for several months an think its speed and useability are great! Support only needed once for info on an update and email response was near instantaneous! This program pulls the key financial data along with important news items and does so with great speed and and straightforward simplicity. I would love to see some more technicial indicators (perhaps a $$ extra pro version?). Easily the best financial app Ive ever used!! 5 Stars all the way!! patzip

I used to use this app every day. On upgrading to MacOs X 10.8 the news update feature stopped working.

I use this application a lot for work (reasearch analyst at a small investment management shop). It is a great go-to to keep track of key equities and run quick lookups for basic quant data, technical analysis, and fundamentals. Provides good links for deeper reasearch and has a crisp presentation. While I primarily use a PC at work, this is my go-to when I am working out of the office and using my Mac. Highly recommended app.

You choose the indexes and stocks you want to follow. Then by clicking on a stock, it brings up the news on that stock from today to months back. Very quick and convenient.

Good support, very quick, stats and news are very helpful. Problems with software are fixed in a reasonable time. Great to sync with iPhone.

I really like StockSpy so far (using ver 1.5). Its great for building watch lists, viewing some basic fundamentals, and viewing charts. The interface is clean and easy to navigate. The bug (and work around): When viewing charts, see the price listed on the right vertical axis. Then, hit the button to extend the charts to full screen (hiding the symbol and stats panes), the grid lines and chart adjust for the longer time period, but THE PRICE AXIS DOES NOT ADJUST, incorrect price levels display. To get the correct price axis, switch between weekly and daily views. The bug can easily be seen when viewing larger price movements. Enhancemnet: It would be nice if they could add a scroll bar to the chart for viewing further back in time. I can extend the application to take up multiple monitors to see further back, but a scroll bar would be a nice addition.

I really like the app, but it doesnt work beyoind a day. If I leave it running on my machine and come in the next morning it looks fine but the numbers are obviously not updated and totally unreliable. It appears to me to be hanging up when my machine goes into sleep mode, but its hard to tell. Very frustrating. Would be 5 stars if not for that

The images make this look like a pretty full featured graphing tool, but there arent even simple options like 1-day, 5-day, 1- month, etc. views… I find the default "Daily", "Weekly", and "Monthly" views to be totally weird and useless. Why not have the traditional units were all familiar with from EVERY other tool. When these options are there Ill revise my review.

It allows me to screen stocks quickly both technically as well as current news information and breif fundamentals. It has helped me increase my returns by 30% over 3 months.

This is a pretty good stock app, with only one major flaw… That being both the Apps icon and UI are ugly… The same holds true for the iPad & iPhone apps… This is my primary Stock app, but I really wish they would redo the overall appearnece to be more pleasing to the eye...

UI is a little clunky and dated. Some of the low resolution company logos which appear next to the ticker symbols look terrible. The thing that bothers me the most is that longer you have the App up and running, the slower the accuracy of the price fluxuations tend to reflect real time quotes. A simple quit and re-launch fixes this, but you may find yourself performing this action every 10 minutes or so.

I have noticed that the graffs do not match up w/ the real information and not accurate. This is a good buy for the beginner but not for someone who is going to be seroius about this

Useful, clean layout, yet crashed several times after prior version update…however that seems to have been corrected. Ive found the Stats section is not always accurate which is annoying as this makes me feel like I must go somewhere else to double-check data. This app would also be more compelling if it also had a screen/filter function for at least the North American market.
